Jane Conyers, of Helmsley
Jane Conyers was born Jane Thornton, to a London merchant family. In 1737 she married a Mr Knipe and in 1765 she married Richard Conyers (1724-1786), third son of John and Elizabeth Conyers of Helmsley. Richard Conyers was educated at Jesus College, Cambridge, being ordained deacon in 1747 and priest in 1755. He became vicar of Helmsley. Jane and Richard Conyers had no children. She died in 1774 and is buried in Helmsley church. The household account book of Jane Conyers records all household expenses, such as food, linen, the cost of servants, as well as some personal information such as the names of her two children by her first husband.
