Robert Carlisle Broadley, of Hull
Robert Carlisle Broadley (d.1812) came from a Hull merchant family that bought land at Sutton, Stoneferry, Ferriby and Hull. The Broadleys voracious land-buying was supported by their trading activities. Robert Carlisle Broadley became a partner of the East Riding Bank and when he died without issue his business and property passed to a nephew. The Brynmor Jones Library holds one significant item: a small exercise book filled with notes made by Robert Carlisle Broadley between 1768 and 1773 when he was a young man living at his father's house in North Ferriby. Most of these are quite hasty jottings about his social life and personal accounts. [DP/146]
