Rev. John Blanchard, of Lund and Middleton-on-the-Wolds
The Blanchard family can be traced back in the Lund district to the early seventeenth century. At Barlby, the family owned the moated site of the medieval manor house. John Blanchard (1760-1827) of Middleton and Driffield married Ann Radford and was vicar of Lund in the 1790s. He held 120 acres of land at Middleton-on-the-Wolds and built a new vicarage at Lund in 1814. Their eldest son, John Blanchard (1790-1862) was admitted to Jesus College, Cambridge, 1808. In 1826 his father presented him with the Lund vicarage before his own death. The younger John Blanchard had two sons, one of whom, Henry Dacre Blanchard (1824-1904) became rector of Middleton. There are circa 30 items spanning 1799-1835 relating to the Reverend John Blanchard and his family. They include title deeds to the curacy of Kilnwick, the vicarage of Lund and rectorial rights at Middleton-on-the-Wolds. [DDCV(2)/56]
