Landed Family and Estate Papers Subject Guide

Binnington family, of North Dalton

The Binnington family can be traced back to John Binnington, a yeoman farmer and shepherd, and his wife Alice, who were alive in the first half of the eighteenth century. The family's connection with North Dalton began around the 1790s when Thomas Binnington spent £1100 buying property. Two of his grandsons owned Summit House Farm and their descendants owned land until 1935. There are 90 items dating from 1633 and relating to properties at North Dalton. They include an 1809 plan of the Binnington estate, tenancy agreements, bank books and family wills. There are also some seventeenth-century papers of the Oxtaby family. [DDCV(2)/55]
