Aske family of Aughton
The Askes were an old Yorkshire family whose origins can be traced to the 11th century when they held lands in North Yorkshire. A younger branch of the family married into property in Aughton and a descendant of the first lord of the manor, Robert Aske, was northern leader of the Pilgrimage of Grace and executed in 1537. The family gained further East Riding property during the Reformation. John Aske (1565-1605) sold the estates at Aughton, though the moated manor house survives. This small collection comprises two pedigrees and genealogical research notes, including copies of wills and title documents, grants and schedules of property [DX/55].
