Since its establishment in 1929, the Library has acquired numerous collections of archives and manuscripts of various types and in many subject areas, particularly with regard to the British labour movement, politics, local landed families and modern literary figures. It is the policy of the Library to strengthen these collections by means of gift, purchase or deposit, whilst as far as possible avoiding conflict and duplication with the collecting policies of other local record repositories. In seeking and acquiring new material, priority will be given to the following areas:-
1) Records of the University of Hull and Hull University College.
2) Records of individuals employed by, or associated with, the University of Hull.
3) Records in the following subject areas:
(i) Labour and political history;
(ii) South-East Asian studies;
(iii) Such other records as from time to time may be held to support the current or likely future teaching and research needs of the University of Hull.
4) Modern English literary manuscripts and archives.
5) As far as is reasonably possible, and with the exception of existing deposits (and additions thereto) and related Collections, records of the locality (ie. East Yorkshire and Humberside) will not actively be sought except in the categories specified above in relation to the University of Hull, labour and political history, and literary manuscripts.
