Archives and manuscripts have been collected since the establishment of Hull University College in 1928. There are now over 750,000 documents and files amongst over 120 larger and over 300 smaller collections held. The documents date from the late 11th to the early 21st centuries, and cover a great range of subjects, places and activities. They are of value to researchers and historians of all types, and from all over the world.
The main strengths of the collections are:
- landed family and estate archives
- modern English literary manuscripts
- pressure group archives
- modern political papers
- trades union and labour archives
- business records
- religious archives
- South East Asian manuscripts
- records of Hull University College and the University of Hull
- papers of individuals employed by or associated with the University
