Aura combines academic expertise with industry know-how in the UK's Energy Estuary region to make offshore wind a viable solution across the world.

As a catalyst for collaboration Aura brings together industry partners to harness and drive innovation in the offshore wind sector, rooted in the Humber at the heart of the UK's Energy Estuary.

By bringing together professionals from across industry, universities and other expert organisations, Aura is supporting the development of offshore wind as a sustainable source of low carbon energy for future generations.

Rooted in the Humber with national and international reach, Aura aims to help solve the technical and operational challenges facing offshore wind and facilitate the development of skills and expertise to meet the needs of this rapidly growing industry, worldwide.

Through working together we are helping to reduce the cost of energy, support companies in the supply chain and strengthen the UK’s position as a world leader in offshore wind.

Collaboration is the cornerstone of Aura. To deliver the vision, the University of Hull and our partners Ørsted, CATCH, Humber LEP, Siemens Gamesa, Nation Oceanography Centre, ORE Catapult, University of Sheffield, and Durham University are focusing on three key areas to help establish a truly vibrant offshore wind industry based in the Humber region with global reach and influence.

Project Aura combines 15 years of University of Hull research with the practical realities experienced in industry to shape the future of offshore wind

These are;

  • Creating a talent pipeline – Understanding and meeting the skills need of the Offshore Wind Industry. By developing the talent, skills and expertise needed by the offshore wind sector, we will contribute to creating a vibrant, mature and sustainable offshore wind industry.
  • Engagement with Industry – Aura engages extensively with industry; building and growing existing relationships to support economic growth through the essential development of a strong supply chain. 
  • Research development and innovation - Identifying and solving the technical challenges and problems facing the offshore wind sector. Through programmes of research, development and innovation Aura will provide inspiration to build a vibrant and successful industry.
