Apprenticeships

Interested in an apprenticeship with us?

Degree apprenticeships are a cost-effective way of developing and training your staff, from school leavers through to experienced workers.

Nurture your own home-grown talent and guide their education at a leading university in a way that best suits their ambitions and your business needs.

From April 2017, all large employers have been contributing to the Apprenticeship Levy so it is important to make sure you enjoy the benefits of your investment.

Programmes are employer-led, ensuring they teach skills and knowledge relevant to the modern workplace.

Apprentices are employed by you so they understand the people, equipment and culture of your organisation.

We will work with you to ensure that training is tailored to attract and develop the talented and motivated employees who will boost your productivity and performance.

Benefits for employees

We’ve produced an employer guide to help employers understand what the University can offer.

Earn while you learn and progress in your career. An apprenticeship offers the perfect blend of internationally-recognised qualifications and valuable work experience.

Tuition fees are paid by your employer and the government, and you'll be paid a decent wage throughout your programme – which could mean a debt-free university experience.

Boost your career prospects by learning from industry experts in state-of-the-art higher education facilities while enjoying the security of a full-time job.

Work for an employer who believes so strongly in your potential that they are prepared to invest in your future.

Funding

The Government has pledged to create three million apprenticeships by 2020 with a special focus on higher and degree level apprenticeships offering education right up to Masters degree level.

Levy paying organisations

From April 2017, large employers have been paying a levy of 0.5% of their payroll bill to create a £3 billion funding pot to use exclusively for apprenticeships.

Employers can draw down the value of their contribution – plus a 10% top-up donation from the Government - in vouchers which can be used to pay for apprenticeships through their Digital Account.

Use them or lose them! Levy vouchers expire if they are not spent within 2 years. A firm paying a £100k levy would recoup the full value with just four degree apprenticeships.

Vouchers can be spent on training, assessment and certification. Employers themselves pay the apprentice’s wages.

Non-levy organisations

Smaller employers can access funding at a 90% funded rate meaning that apprenticeships have never been as accessible.

Employers who have spent all of their levy but who want to offer more apprenticeships will receive Government support at the same generous rate as small employers.

Additional incentive payments may also be available depending on eligibility.
