About the course

This new undergraduate degree is distinctive in being fully focused on employability. By availing yourself of the opportunities to undertake work placements in schools and other alternative provision, you will be able to apply your theoretical knowledge in practical environments.

Education Studies with TESOL offers our standard Education Studies degree alongside the CERT TESOL, the basic qualification in TEFL that allows people to teach in language schools all over the world. The degree will empower you to make a real difference in an ever changing and diverse world. This will be achieved through the exploration of moral and social issues, a consideration of how the environment shapes learning, and an understanding of how you can make a difference to a child’s wellbeing and future.

Flexible in its make-up, this programme also allows you to take specialist professional pathways such as a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and education-related fields like social or health care contexts, careers and guidance and the voluntary sector. Uniquely, in Year 2 all students can choose to take part in study abroad for one semester at a choice of English speaking partner institutions in countries such as Denmark, Norway, Sweden and China. Alternatively, you can choose to spend this time gaining professional work experience in alternative settings, either in the UK or abroad.
