  • Academic Study Skills
  • Research Project in the Humanities
  • Introduction to Study in the Humanities

BA (Hons) with an Industrial Placement

We encourage our students to consider a work placement in Year 3, as it makes a significant difference when they return to complete their studies – to both academic performance and future employment prospects. Students on placement have a dedicated Academic Support Tutor. Your tutor will talk you through potential placement opportunities, help with applications and support you during the year.

Placements can be with multinational organisations employing large teams of design staff (such as Sky or the BBC), through to small to medium enterprises around the UK and beyond. We also work closely with the Centre for Digital Innovation, a £15-million investment in Hull's digital industry. Placements may be possible in this organisation, providing you with opportunities to gain valuable relevant experience in the local area.

  • We expect applicants to demonstrate an experience of a related subject and an aptitude for academic work which may be determined by an essay and/or interview alongside the application.

Future prospects

Our emphasis is on developing graduates who have the potential to lead in the creative industries. You'll be equipped to enter a range of digital design-related positions - everything from traditional graphic design, through interactive design for web platforms, to working in advertising.

Our graduates have gone on to successful careers in graphic design, web design, multimedia design, information design, video design and art direction.

The University has an excellent Careers Service, which gives individual advice to students and arranges recruiting visits by prospective employers during your final year. We do consistently well in the ‘graduate employment’ category of national surveys, and we have one of the lowest graduate unemployment rates in the UK.
