About the course

Our Biology degree provides a broad education for those who choose not to specialise. The choice of modules allows you to keep your degree broadly based and multidisciplinary, or alternatively to give a particular emphasis to your studies through your selection of options. The emphasis is on the acquisition of knowledge of biology and key skills in practical laboratory and field studies, plus IT and communication skills. Studying at Hull means you will benefit from research-informed teaching and excellent facilities in the department, and you have the opportunity, especially in your final year, to participate in original research-based projects.

Our state-of-the-art, industry-standard facilities include the new biomedical research facility within the new Allam Building, the 33,000 litre tropical aquaria, and new environmental genomics laboratories. In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014, staff from this school contributed to the University's two best results in the areas of Environmental Science and Allied Health, where an outstanding 87% of research submitted was awarded three or four stars. The option of an integrated foundation year offers the perfect way into this subject for those without a strong enough academic background for direct entry to the full BSc.
