Active learning is well known across Higher Education institutions. However, it is sometimes difficult to put these ideas into practice and develop appropriate exercises and activities to use in lectures, tutorials and seminars.
The Teaching Activities section holds a bank of practical examples of active learning which can be used at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. It covers face-to-face teaching, blended learning and online delivery and is arranged according to the type of exercise involved.
Each activity includes detailed instructions and support material, including handouts for tutorials and screen grabs for the online programmes. Please feel free to use and develop any of these activities in your own lectures, tutorials and seminars.
The examples listed here are only a small illustration of the wide range of active learning exercises that can be incorporated into lectures and tutorials to help students engage with the material they are studying. If you have an example of a teaching activity of your own that you would like to see included, please submit it here.
