Lecture

Incorporating active learning into the teaching process brings enormous benefits to all involved. For tutors, the lecture or tutorial environment becomes much more lively with a two-way dialogue between themselves and the students.

The students themselves feel a greater ownership of the learning process and have the opportunity to develop their analytical and critical thinking skills. It creates a supportive environment and can make complex topics much more manageable. Students learn from themselves and from the tutor.

Generally this makes for much more enjoyable lectures and tutorials, with a higher attendance. Students who have participated in these activities at the University have found them to be extremely beneficial and stimulating. This has been reflected in the high standard of work produced at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as in the student feedback.

Examples of their work can be found here, along with feedback comments from the students themselves.
