Dr Paul Smith is Programme Director for the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship and Faculty Head of Degree Apprenticeships.

Previously, he worked at Teesside University as Head of the Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour subject group, and as Associate Dean at the University of Sunderland.

Before entering higher education, he was a management development adviser in the National Health Service.

Research PhDs

Paul’s current research is focused on work-based learning, higher education policy and the changing role of the leader. He welcomes applications from potential PhD students interested in these and related areas.

His work has explored the interface between business organisations and higher education, examining the range of issues and perspectives that come out of these relationships.
