Mr Ord is an experienced academic who has worked at the University of Northumbria, the University of Durham and the University of Hull.

He previously worked as Applications Consultant with the Oracle Corporation, and also founded and developed a metrology laboratory which he later sold as a going concern.

Mr Ord was previously a professional engineer with 12 years' experience working in the fields of public transport, power generation and defence.

He is also chairman of the Eastern Ravens Trust charity which supports the informal education of children and young people experiencing social exclusion and/or disadvantage.
