Middleton Hall

Following a £9.5 million investment, Middleton Hall has been transformed into a world-class cultural venue and offers our students some of the finest facilities around. The centrepiece is a 400-seater concert hall. As Hull's year as UK City of Culture 2017 is well underway, the versatile venue has already been used for classical music concerts, and with adaptable acoustics, it's also regularly used as a surround-sound cinema and theatre space.

Middleton Hall also boasts music studios and recording equipment that rivals the best commercial studios. The studios include a huge 48-channel mixing desk - one of the finest ambisonic studios in the country, meaning that listeners can experience 3D sound. Our students have access to the studios around the clock. We've installed very latest lighting and sound performance technologies, improving the quality of scenography in all performances. The design offers greater comfort to spectators, improved sightlines, a partially sprung stage floor and a more refined acoustic experience.

Holme House Studio

Holme House

Film students have priority access to Holme House, our on-campus studio space and editing suite. Students have the opportunity to take a short piece of audio-visual media from pre-planning, to shooting, editing and postproduction. Our studio space allows you to produce a broadcast-standard television project, or to be creative with lighting, props and video effects and create a production constrained only by your imagination. In addition to the multiple studio cameras, you’ll also have access to portable cameras and location equipment to use on- and off-campus, and even take abroad in search of the perfect filming setting.

Digital Media Facilities

Industry-standard facilities and equipment support you as you work on a range of creative production pieces throughout your degree. You will explore the Adobe software collection in your creation of 2D graphic designs and multimedia pieces. You'll learn professional skills in 3D and apply these using software such as Autodesk Maya, a professional package used in the creation of films and games. And using Final Cut, you will compose your own video production pieces for games and/or entertainment sequences. In addition to the studio spaces, you'll also benefit from a wide range of other facilities. Our blue screen environment enables you to spend time creating fantastical scenes for your professional production work.
