"Two years ago, I decided to come to Hull to continue my Bachelor Degree after my studies in Hong Kong. This was my first experience of studying abroad and I’m really happy with the decision to come to the UK to further my education.
"First of all, I improved my language skills considerably after taking a five-month language course at the University and then I embarked upon my studies in the Hull Business School.
"Academically, I had many interesting lectures which helped me to gain my subject knowledge. Most of the assignments are well-designed for students and allow us to develop practical skills. What is more, the University staff are always very supportive. The World of Work office and Careers Service are also very useful and provide invaluable information for students. The advisors in the Careers Service helped me to prepare my first CV and develop my interview skills.
"Moreover, being a member of the Sports Centre is part of my University life and I regularly attend fitness classes and use the gym. Joining different societies has been another good University experience for me and it has allowed me to meet people with similar interests, make new friends and share good ideas. For instance, I joined the Enterprise Society and the Language Society, and through these I have managed several interesting events and workshops with other society members. I’ve even learnt different languages!
"Above all, I would say that what I enjoy the most about the University of Hull is the friendly international environment. I have made many good friends from different cultures but with the same interests.
"Last but not least, Hull is a nice city. It has beautiful views and the people here are friendly. Also, the location is good to reach other cities in the UK, and I have travelled to several well-known cities in the last two years. Now that Hull has received the UK City of Culture 2017 crown, I am looking forward to my future studies and life here even more!"
"I chose to attend the University of Hull as the lecturers and supervisors are professional. The university where I pursued my Master’s degree also has connections with the University of Hull. I chose to do this course because it was recommended to me from my previous university, so it was easy to acquire information about the University of Hull. The department has many events for its students and my supervisor is very professional and helpful. I have learnt a lot about my subject!
"There are several sports clubs and societies at the University. I decided to join the Jogging Society and the Badminton Society as I think it is very important to exercise during my studies.
"Hull is great! The accommodation here is very comfortable and the living cost is cheaper than other areas in the UK. My time in Hull has been very helpful!
"After University, I plan to go back to China and look for full-time employment. Hopefully I will be able to find some opportunities with my career to collaborate with the UK.
"My greatest moments from my time at Hull are:
- Festivals party – a great experience!
- Department’s Christmas Dinner – a nice time to socialise with my peers and lecturers.
- Trips with my new friends in the UK - I have enjoyed travelling around the UK with my friends from Hull."
“Six years ago, I fulfilled my dream and flew half way around the world from China to study in the UK. I chose the University of Hull because it suited my study interests and because it has a good reputation.
“As an international student, who was leaving home for the first time, I experienced a range of feelings, from excitement to loneliness and homesickness. Fortunately, I need not have had those worries because I was welcomed, supported and encouraged by the staff and students at the University. The support included an airport pick-up, international students' induction and social events to enable me and my fellow students to adapt to a new life here. The warm and friendly Hull residents made me feel that Hull is a second home for international students.
“At the University, I joined various voluntary activities to help support my fellow students and I became honoured with the title of International Student Ambassador. I really enjoy the learning experience here; all my teachers are well prepared for the lectures and always ready to help when I have any questions. The modern education facilities give me a good learning environment. If you are reading on the top floor of Brynmor Jones Library, you can enjoy learning from a book but also have opportunity to enjoy a bird's eye view of the city through the window. The University's friendly environment and excellent academic atmosphere is what made me want to stay here to study for my Master’s and PhD.
“I particularly enjoy the fabulous student life in Hull. This beautiful city is peaceful, harmonious and convenient for the University. The opportunity to study with students from a diverse background is invigorating. The Students' Union is a big student family and the numerous student societies help me make many international friends who have the same interests. I not only have the chance to enjoy British culture but can also learn more about other international cultures within this big family.
“A series of supportive services, such as the Careers Service, Student Advice Centre and shops in the Student Union building establish another home for international students. I like this friendly University and I like beautiful Hull. The more I become involved in the Hull community, the more I love it.”
