How and when to apply for accommodation

How and when to apply for accommodation

Received an offer to study at the University of Hull? Congratulations! We can't wait to welcome you into your new home here.

Our accommodation guarantee

If you’re a new, full-time, unaccompanied student, and you apply for accommodation by 1 September, we guarantee you a room in accommodation that's owned, in partnership, managed or directed by the University.

Our accommodation is for undergraduate and postgraduate students. If we receive more applications from full-time postgraduates than we can accommodate, we will help you to find accommodation in the private sector.

Undergraduate (new students)

New students

If you’ve selected Hull as either your firm or insurance choice with UCAS you should have received an email confirming the accommodation application process is now open. The email was sent to your personal address registered with UCAS. It advised how to use our online services to apply for accommodation.

  1. Follow the instructions in the email about how to set up an account.
  2. Log in to MyAdmin – http://myadmin.hull.ac.uk
  3. Click on ‘Book Accommodation’, then ‘Apply for Accommodation’.
  4. Follow the screens through the application process. Select the accommodation you’d like to apply for and put them in order of preference. Remember, you might not be offered your first choice, so make sure you’re happy with all of your selections. Please don’t duplicate any of your choices, as this will slow down the allocation process.
  5. Submit your application.
  6. You'll then be asked to pay a £150 deposit (with the exception of insurance applicants).

Insurance applicants

You should have recieved an email to your personal address registered with UCAS to confirm the accommodation application process is now open. It advised how to use our online services to apply for accommodation.

To apply, follow steps 1–5 above. Once Hull becomes your firm choice, you'll then be allocated accommodation. When you accept your residence contract, you'll be required to pay a £150 deposit. Applications will not be processed until the University becomes your firm choice. However, we recommend applying as soon as possible so that we have your application ready if you wish to accept your offer at Hull.

Continuing (returning students)

Look out for an email from us about how and when to apply for accommodation for the next academic year.

Applications for a place in The Lawns, Taylor Court Flats and the student houses have now closed for 2017/18, but places are still available in University-leased accommodation.

We have 3- to 7-bedroom properties available for groups, and we're also taking single applicants – to be allocated a place in a shared house with other students.

For more information, or to apply, please visit the AskHU desk on the second floor of Student Central or email headleasing@hull.ac.uk for an application form.

Hull York Medical School

Once your department has confirmed that you’ll be based at Hull, you’ll receive information about how to apply for accommodation online and pay your deposit. You should receive this information by the middle of June 2017.

Postgraduate applicants

Applications for postgraduate accommodation begins on 10 May at 9 am.

If you’ve firmly accepted an offer to study at Hull, and you'd like to secure accommodation before you arrive, please complete the following steps.

  1. Download and complete a postgraduate application form and submit it online.
  2. To reserve accommodation before you arrive, you’ll need to pay a £150 deposit at https://epay.hull.ac.uk/epay/open. During this process, you'll be issued with a card payment identification number beginning with the prefix CPG. You'll need to keep a record of this number.

If you don't pay the deposit, you'll be allocated accommodation on arrival on a first come, first served basis. All students will be contacted by email once an accommodation offer has been made. Please ensure that we have your current email address.

Key information

Semester dates

For 'standard' semesters, teaching begins on 25 September 2017.

Contact your department directly for specific dates and non-standard semester dates (e.g. Hull York Medical School and School of Health and Social Work).

Money

Accommodation fees are paid in instalments in October, January and April, and coincide with student loan payments.

We take care of the fiddly bits, so you can concentrate on the important stuff – settling in and getting to lectures. Insurance, internet and utility bills are included in your rent with most properties, so there’s less for you to sort out. It makes budgeting easier, too.

We also offer a range of scholarships and bursaries to help with living costs.

Documents, forms and policies

From insurance certificates, to information about WiFi - here's everything you need to know.

Tips for applying ...

Remember, you might not be offered your first choice of accommodation, so make sure you’re happy with all your selections. You are able to choose 3 en-suite options, but please make sure you don't choose the same type of accommodation more than once.

Think about your course commitments and how they may affect which type of accommodation will be best suited to you.

  • Students who study drama or music often work irregular hours, including evenings - so you may prefer self-catered accommodation close to campus.
  • Hull York Medical School students may be required to attend phases of tuition/observation work in the evenings - meaning self-catered accommodation close to campus may be more suitable.
  • Nursing students need longer contracts and are often best suited to self-catered environments.
  • If you’re spending a year away as part of your course (for example study abroad or industrial placement) you should contact us for accommodation advice in December if you’re due to return the following September.
